A collaboration between Nanyang Technology University (NTU) and DSO National Laboratories in SIngapore have resulted in the development of a nerve agent detector which is as small as a normal credit card. Such a device allows biochemical personnel to quickly respond to bioterrorist attacks such as the 1995 Tokyo subway nerve gas attack. The device works by detecting sarin or other related chemical warfare agents through a minute drop of blood. By allowing the screening of up to 96 people within half an hour, mass production and easy portability of the device will allow security personnel to control the fear of ordinary citizens like you and me from terrorists who are keen on using chemical warfare agents.
